The article "Evaluating the Effectiveness of Writing Center Classroom Visits: An Evidence-Based Approach" by Holly Ryan and Danielle Kane delves into the idea of members of college Writing Centers take time to send tutors to classrooms. In this way, it would ensure that students would be able to at least have a preview of the people they could be working with when they go in for tutoring. In order to see what good such meetings would do, a survey was given to the students that were attending a chance to give their side on the issue.
It's surprising to see in the results that there were quite a few students that were unaware they had a Writing Center as a resource they could use. Not to sound biased, but it's important that students know what's available to them in order to ensure they have every chance to succeed in their time at college. Just having it on campus is important, but it's only useful if everyone knows where on campus it is and how much they can use it. In that sense, it's not a bad idea to think of new ways to reach the students.
